Silvermines Community Alert Launches Cairde Sign‑Up & Property Branding Event in Dolla

The Silvermines Community Alert group is inviting residents to a major community safety event this Saturday, 5th September, at the Dolla GAA Grounds (E45 XT80), running from 10am to 2pm. The initiative brings together two important crime‑prevention measures: registration for the new Cairde community safety app and a property‑branding service designed to deter theft and assist Gardaí in returning stolen items.

A Modern Upgrade to Community Safety: The Cairde App

Cairde is the latest development from Muintir na Tíre, integrating modern smartphone technology with the long‑established Community Alert text system. The app keeps users connected with their local alert group, supports reporting of missing persons, pets, and antisocial behaviour, and includes an emergency panic button that instantly sends the user’s location to selected contacts and An Garda Síochána.

Residents attending Saturday’s event will be able to sign up on-site. Organisers advise bringing a smartphone and allowing approximately 15 minutes for registration. A €20 registration fee applies.

Protecting Local Property: Laser Branding

Alongside Cairde registration, attendees can avail of property branding—a service that uses laser engraving to mark valuable items with the owner’s Driver Licence number. This unique identifier helps Gardaí trace and return stolen property and acts as a strong deterrent to theft.

Items suitable for branding include tools, trailers, horseboxes, bicycles, scooters, phones, tablets, and other portable equipment. Participants should bring both the items they wish to brand and their driving licence. The service is provided, with an optional donation box supporting North Tipperary Hospice.

The event is supported by Community Garda Allison O’Connell, Task Community Care, and Muintir na Tíre. Their presence underscores the collaborative approach behind rural safety initiatives and highlights the importance of community engagement in crime prevention.

Silvermines Community Alert continues to play a vital role in promoting neighbour support, vigilance, and community wellbeing. Saturday’s event is open to all, and organisers encourage residents from Silvermines, Dolla, and surrounding areas to attend.
