Silvermines will see a surge of colour, noise and excitement this weekend as the Paddy Dakar, one of Ireland’s most distinctive charity motorbike events, passes through the village as part of its two‑day orienteering challenge.

The Silvermines Community Alert group is inviting residents to a major community safety event this Saturday, 5th September, at the Dolla GAA Grounds (E45 XT80), running from 10am to 2pm. The initiative brings together two important crime‑prevention measures: registration for the new Cairde community safety app and a property‑branding service designed to deter theft and assist Gardaí in returning stolen items.

A new series of tests has been carried out at the former tailings pond site at Gortmore, Silvermines, amid local concern that contamination could be spreading to a wider area.
The Silvermines Men’s Shed members set off on their annual summer trip on Saturday, 22 August, travelling in comfort with a hired bus from Arra Travel, Silvermines. The day brought a rich blend of history, learning, good food, and shared camaraderie as the group visited Athy and Donaghmore.
