Now in its tenth year, the Paddy Dakar has grown into a major annual gathering for off‑road enthusiasts, attracting over 200 riders from across the country who share a passion for adventure, navigation and the rugged beauty of rural Ireland.

A Decade of Adventure for a Cause

The event begins in Doon, Co. Limerick, where participants set off on a challenging 200 km route that winds through Slieve Felim, Silvermines, and the Galtee Mountains, covering remote tracks, forest trails and rural roads across counties Limerick and Tipperary. Unlike a traditional race, the Paddy Dakar is an orienteering challenge, testing riders’ ability to navigate terrain, read the landscape and work together to complete the course safely.

Over the past decade, the Paddy Dakar has built a strong reputation not only for its adventurous spirit but also for its commitment to supporting charitable causes. Each year, the event raises funds for local and national organisations, with participants and supporters contributing generously.

With the event taking place on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September, residents in the Silvermines area can expect significantly increased motorbike activity throughout the weekend. More than 200 riders will be travelling through rural roads, forest entrances, laneways and connecting routes as part of the challenge.

Local Community Alert groups wish to highlight the following:

• Road users, residents, farmers and landowners are asked to be aware of the event and the temporary increase in traffic.

• Motorbike activity will be particularly noticeable on rural roads, including those around Silvermines village and the surrounding hills.

• Anyone travelling, working or moving livestock in the area is encouraged to plan accordingly and exercise additional caution.

The cooperation of the community plays an important role in ensuring the event runs smoothly and safely for everyone involved.
